PUBLICATIONS BY FAIZ AHMED FAIZ
Naqhsh-e-Faryaadi, Faiz’s first
collection of poems was published in 1943 when he was 32 years
old. At the time of publication, he was already established as
one of the leading poet as his poems were appearing in many
literary journals and newspapers. Faiz participation in
Mushiaras throughout India, also made him a familiar name. Faiz
is the one of the most translated South Asian poet in English.
Faiz Ahmed Faiz received the Lenin Peace Prize in 1962 and was a
nominee for the Nobel Prize. Over the last 45 years, a number
of his translations have been published. The most celebrated one
was produced in 1962 by his friend and fellow communist from
Scotland, Victor Kiernan. The universality of Faiz’s poetry
spurred many other excellent translations. In addition to the
publications mentioned below, Faiz poems have been included in
many anthologies. In addition to English, Faiz’s work has been
translated in many other languages including French, German,
Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Polish, Farsi, Uzbek,
Czech, Kazakh, Turkmen, Punjabi, Hindi, Sindhi, Bengali, Arabic
and Singhalese. Recently some of his poems have been translated
in Danish.
