PUBLICATIONS BY FAIZ AHMED FAIZ

Naqhsh-e-Faryaadi, Faiz’s first collection of poems was published in 1943 when he was 32 years old. At the time of publication, he was already established as one of the leading poet as his poems were appearing in many literary journals and newspapers.  Faiz participation in Mushiaras throughout India, also made him a familiar name. Faiz is the one of the most translated South Asian poet in English. Faiz Ahmed Faiz received the Lenin Peace Prize in 1962 and was a nominee for the Nobel Prize.  Over the last 45 years, a number of his translations have been published. The most celebrated one was produced in 1962 by his friend and fellow communist from Scotland, Victor Kiernan. The universality of Faiz’s poetry spurred many other excellent translations. In addition to the publications mentioned below, Faiz poems have been included in many anthologies. In addition to English, Faiz’s work has been translated in many other languages including French, German, Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Russian, Polish, Farsi, Uzbek, Czech, Kazakh, Turkmen, Punjabi, Hindi, Sindhi, Bengali, Arabic and Singhalese. Recently some of his poems have been translated in Danish.
